Family Matters is a specialised individual counselling service for family members who experience tremendous stress and feelings of helplessness from living with someone with an addiction. Family member have their own unique recovery needs; just as the addict needs to recover from the addiction, family members need to get their own lives sorted out after years of neglecting their own needs. Studies have shown that there is a positive impact on the addicted person's recovery when his family members are in recovery too.
Family Matters has a team of dedicated specialists including psychiatrists and addiction counsellors who will support family members. The service is available to family members of existing NAMS clients as well as the general public. The addicted person does
not need to be a NAMS client for the family members to be seen by the Family Matters team.
